1.       The title of the magazine-
For the title of my magazine I used a font called ‘blippo light sf’ for the ‘new beat’ as it is the same writing that is on the headphones that the subject is wearing, I stuck to the colours red, white black and blue throughout my magazine as it fits in with the genre of my magazine pop and R&B. For my masthead I used red writing on white background which could link with some already existing magazines such as the ‘Q’ logo as it uses the colours red and white but uses a red background and white background, my masthead could also link with the ‘NME’ logo as that is red writing with a white rim but it also has black in this logo which I do not. But my masthead is inspired a little by these logos.

The ‘Q’ logo is boxed in which creates a barrier for the logo where as my masthead challenges the codes and conventions of real magazines as it isn’t boxed and flows freely on the page over the image in spite of this I think my masthead still works as it connects with the well-known headphones which makes the font and masthead memorable.
2- mis-en-scene of images-
I think the mis-en-scene of my images follow the codes and conventions of magazines. This is because I mainly used the studio with a black or white background for most of my photos which gives a professional look and makes the subject the main focus of the image which links in with pop magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘NME’. This also reflects the essence of pop and R&B magazines and music artist as it shows them to be professional but still fun and standing out from the crowd which the bright colours used in the images. I have also used a background of a brick wall which connects with some pop magazines such as ‘VIBE’ which connects with the style of magazine and portrays the music artists not caring what anyone thinks and shows them to be fun and outgoing which was the look I was trying to capture.
3-costumes and props-
The costumes and props used throughout “new beat” are conventional. This is because I spent a lot of time working out the costumes and props used and used things such as bright, vibrant coloured clothing, red lipstick, beat headphones, geek classes and fur coats which fits in with the style of pop magazines and can be found in existing magazines such as ‘BLENDER’ and ‘VIBE’ which in with the concept of my magazine and portrays the pop star image.
4.people-
The people featured in my magazine are quite unconventional. This is because they’re quite young and not as extreme, obscure or striking in their appearance as some of the pop stars featured in some R&B magazines. As most pop magazines feature male and female subjects and they are normally dressed more vibrant and striking to catch the audiences eye and I have been unconventional by using just female subjects and dressing them not as eye catching and in normal clothes but my magazine connects with existing magazines as it features young subjects but I have toned the look down to make it easier to understand. However I don’t think that the unconventional choice of people in relation to existing magazines will be an issue this is because my target audience will be more interested in seeing a teenage music artist in magazines rather than a middle aged pop star as they can relate to them more and will inspire them to be the subject.
5.font and style-
For the title contents I have use big bold writing which makes it conventional as it is the largest and brightest writing on the page. This title is slightly less conventional as I have split it into two and use two different colours for this title and the second half of the title is slightly lower that the first half whereas existing magazines tend to keep the titles in a straight line and all one colour however I think this will connect with my teenage target audience with the visual impact.  And this kind of font, style and colour of text fits in with the rest of my magazine and the style of it. For the title of the double page spread I have made it conventional by making it clear, bold and the biggest text on the page but it’s in conventional in the sense that it is split into two and on bit it placed lower that the over and boxed in different colour but I think this makes it stand out and connects with my target audience and will make it memorable as it is different. For the rest of the font in my pages I have used the same font, style, colour and the same size to show that it is the secondary piece of writing which makes it conventional as existing magazines already do this.

6. Written content-
The written content of my magazine follows the codes and conventions of a real music magazine by covering similar topics in the questions and topics. For example, it asks about the stars albums and photo-shoots, it also asks about how they got into music and becoming famous and if they have always been interested in music all of which can be found in existing magazines aimed at teenagers and young adults. It also includes topics such as the top chart hits, fashion trends and pages on celebrities being reunited which you can also find in real magazines. The double page spread is conventional as it introduces the subjects name and says thank you and gives them a send-off at the end of the interview.
7.Music Genre And How Your Magazine Suggest It-
The main genre of my magazine is pop/R&B with a slight geek look his is quite clear throughout my magazine because of the props on display. For example, I have used the geek glasses and a jumper that says geek and I have used the bright vibrant clothing and some dr.dre beats. In addition to this the music artist featured on the contents page and front cover, are of the same genre of my magazine. As well as this I have used colours such as red, blue, white and black which fir in with the style of the magazine Real music magazines suggest their genre by the mis-en-scene of their images and the artists included, therefore my magazines follows the codes and conventions.
8. layout-
The layout of my magazine in mainly conventional as highlighted on the double page spread which shows the photo on one side of the page underneath the title and the interview on the other side in neat columns. In addition to this the photos are arranged at neat angles with the text and quotes in line with them. . As well as this, my front cover follows layout conventions by having the masthead at the top of the page, a list of sell lines down both sides of the page and the anchorage text across the bottom of the page. My contents page is also conventional with the title at the top of the page with the photo underneath and the text in a neat column on the right hand side with small neatly set out photos underneath the main image.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have chosen to compare this picture of Rihanna and Cher with the front cover photo from my magazine to explain how my magazine represents a particular social group.
The postures of both my subject and Rihanna are similar in the sense that they’ve both got one hand on near their head and one hand down by their side. My subject and the close up of Mary j. Blige photo share similar facial expressions – both staring into the camera and pulling the same shape with their mouth and both having glasses on and one hand holding onto the glasses, although Jodie has some headphones in addition to this and Mat j. Blige has pulled her glasses down under her eyes. My subject and the photo of Cher are wearing similar costumes – both the nerdy but stylish look. As well as this, the background setting is and lighting are the same – all pictures were taken in a studio with a white background and bright lighting to light up the subject. Also, they have similar hairstyles –quite long, curly and wavy although Rihanna’s hair is slightly curlier, Cher and the other photo have quite similar hair colours with my subject brown colours whereas Rihanna has bright red hair. Overall I think that these elements of the photos represent a normal young social group and that my magazine reflects this throughout – the people featured in my magazine are quite ‘normal looking’ but stylish and eye catching but there’s nothing extreme or obscure about their appearances.
3. what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I think that a media institution such as IPC Media would be the best to distribute my magazine. This is because, it already distributes music magazines such as "NME", "Uncut" and "Guitar and Bass" which aims at a similar target audience and age group but my target group is aimed slightly younger and their already existing magazines links well and is similar to my magazine, which would hit off well with their audience. In addition to this, the fact that it already distributes such well known music magazines means that they have the necessary experience and loyal consumers who might be interested in a new branch of music magazine - "New Beat".

4.Who would be the audience for your media product?
The target audience for my magazine is aged 14-19 male and female, but with a slight bias to female in the familiar way my magazine is written.

Typically she will be found mostly plugged into her ipod whether she's doing her artwork or out walking or travelling places but still sociable with her friends. Her ipod features newer popular, well known songs by people by Rihanna, Jessie j, Bruno mars and boy bands. Her free time is spent at concerts or discovering new bands on the internet, but she also spends time watching television and socialising on the internet and spending times with her friends. She spends most of her money is spent on new clothes, make up and accessories and shops at well known high street shops such as ‘river island’ ‘new look’ and ‘top shop’, although she spends some of her money on cd’s and posters of singers.

5.How did you attract/address your target audience?
As well as this, most pop magazines are predominantly aimed at men and women but mainly women - they feature mainly girl talk and gossip and features the hot popular male singers at the time and are written in a way that appeals to women. Therefore my magazine fits in well with already existing magazines such as ‘Q’ or ‘NME’ and therefore appeals to the existing to the target audience.

6. What you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
This is the Lenovo laptop I used to create my magazine on. I did use the college computers at times during lesson times but the majority of my work was done on this laptop.

I also used this memory stick to transfer the work I’d done on the college computers to my laptop and refer them back to the computers at college.
I used this canon power shot A2300 hd digital camera to take all of my photos for my magazine.
In addition to this I created a blog account using “Blogger” to post all of my research and planning activities as well as my final magazine and evaluation.
Overall I have learnt a lot about technology throughout this project; before creating my magazine I'd never used Blogger, or editing programs such as photo shop to edit photos or create a magazine. However I now feel confident in using all of them.

7.looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task) what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Since creating my college magazine my knowledge of using Photoshop has increased considerably. For example I now know how to make elements of my magazine stand out more. In addition to this, I learnt how to select parts of photos using the quick selection tool in order to cut things out. I've also learnt how to use newer more interesting fonts, increasing the visual appeal of my magazine. As well as this, the complexity of my page layout has increased as I've learned how to use layers in more effectively.

Overall my understanding of the software has improved greatly throughout this project because at the start I'd barely used Photoshop and now I am able to use photo shop more and understand it a bit more as I have produced a professional looking magazine using it throughout a bit of creating my magazine.
